ClientsNATIONAL INNOVATION FOUNDATION
NATIONAL INNOVATION FOUNDATION (NIF), established in 2000 with support from the Department of Science and Technology, promotes grassroots innovations and traditional knowledge. Reflecting the Foundation’s focus on resourcefulness and sustainability, the building was designed as a low-cost, climate-responsive structure using locally available materials. The layout consists of clustered spaces arranged around courtyards that support natural ventilation and create microclimates. Roofs are angled to bring in north light, ensuring consistent illumination while reducing heat gain. Exteriors are finished with white paint directly over exposed brick, keeping the construction simple and cost-effective. Each block within the cluster is planned to accommodate services and promote cross ventilation. Load-bearing brick walls form the primary structure, while steel columns support open verandahs and connecting corridors. The design mirrors the Foundation’s values—minimal use of resources, maximum environmental efficiency—creating a space that supports innovation while being rooted in local materials, techniques, and climatic sensitivity.
