This thoughtfully designed extension, crafted from steel, wood, and glass, introduces new living areas to an existing bungalow, enhancing the home’s connection to the surrounding garden. These new spaces become the heart of the home, offering a seamless flow between interior and exterior. Fully glazed on all sides, the extension maximizes views of the lush garden, allowing natural light to flood the interiors while maintaining a strong visual connection with the outdoors.
To address the challenges of privacy and solar heat gain, the design incorporates wooden slatted panels, which provide both shading and seclusion. What makes this extension particularly unique is the use of movable facade panels. These panels give the residents the ability to control the interaction between their interior space and the outside environment, allowing them to create a more open, airy atmosphere or a more enclosed, intimate space, depending on their preference.
In the warmer months, the wooden slats can be adjusted to filter in diffused light, reducing direct sunlight while maintaining an inviting and comfortable ambiance inside. This thoughtful feature transforms the verandah addition into a multifunctional space, one that can be adapted to the weather, season, or even the mood of the residents. Whether it’s an open, breezy summer retreat or a cozy, shaded hideaway in the heat, the movable screens allow for a dynamic environment that changes with the seasons, offering the flexibility to enjoy the full range of experiences the outdoor space has to offer.
