HOUSE AROUND CHIKOO TREES

Set on a 7,000 sq yard plot with two existing chickoo trees, the design of the house grew organically around these trees, which became the focal point of the entire layout. Framing views and filtering sunlight, the chickoo trees anchor the main living spaces—living, dining, and lounge—creating a natural center. A small inner courtyard connects the library and a cozy living nook, while the bedrooms are positioned for privacy yet maintain visual access to the chickoo courtyard. The dining area opens up to a swimming pool and a blend of wild and manicured landscapes, which also house the gym and spa. The pitched roof, inspired by the client’s ancestral home, directs views and lends character to the structure. Movement through the house defines its spatial hierarchy, distinguishing public and private zones. With exposed concrete, selective bold-colored walls, and dramatic double volumes, the house gradually reveals itself as one journeys through it.
