An old factory in Okhla Industrial Estate has been thoughtfully transformed into a vibrant artist studio space for renowned contemporary artist Seema Kohli and her artist daughter Anshika Verma.
The adaptive reuse project reimagines the dark, lightless structure into a luminous, multi-functional space—housing studios, workspaces, an exhibition area, a bookshop, and an offset press.
Guided by natural light and movement, the design introduces a central staircase core that visually and physically connects all levels. North light now floods the interiors through carefully cut sculpted arches in the ceiling, while framed views open to the surrounding greenery.
A minimalist material palette—polished micro cement floors, white walls, and red-framed windows and doors—complements the exposed services that retain the industrial spirit. The street-facing façade features corten steel overhangs, lending uniformity and protection.
This architectural transformation not only supports Seema Kohli’s diverse artistic practice but also revitalizes a forgotten industrial shell into a space of creativity and light.
