The Alloa Hills Weekend RETREAT is located in a gently sloping landscape near the Sabarmati River and was designed for a couple involved in microfinancing. Intended as a weekend retreat, the home offers a quiet space away from their busy schedules and also serves as a venue for inviting writers, artists, and filmmakers to work and reflect. The layout focuses on connecting the interior with the surrounding environment. A central courtyard anchors the plan and opens directly onto a landscaped terrace, blurring the boundary between built and natural spaces. This terrace is designed to function both as an open gathering area and as a quiet place for solitary activities like stargazing. Throughout the house, framed views offer changing perspectives of the landscape, creating a strong sense of place. The project supports both relaxation and informal creative exchange, with spaces adaptable for personal retreat or small performances. The structure uses recycled compressed bricks made from crushed and powdered waste from brick kilns, resulting in a high recycled material content and reducing the project’s environmental impact.
